Public disapproval of Chilean President José Antonio Kast reached 54% on July 26, up two points, following the passage of a frontal system that caused widespread damage.
The survey, conducted on July 23, also revealed a deterioration in public perception of the government’s handling of the emergency created by the storm, as 43 out of every 100 respondents considered the Executive’s response incorrect, five points more than in a previous measurement.

The frontal system, accompanied by an atmospheric river, affected the south, the center, and the northern part of central Chile.
Mayors of the impacted areas criticized the Executive over bureaucratic obstacles, administrative slowness in releasing humanitarian aid, territorial neglect, delays in declaring a state of catastrophe, and prevention failures.

According to the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response, the storm left 13 dead, 18 missing, more than 13,500 displaced, and 40,000 isolated. The same agency reported 1,600 completely destroyed homes, over 5,000 with major damage, and 27,290 with minor damage.
