Israeli forces have completely sealed all entrances to the Nablus governorate in the occupied West Bank since Saturday evening, trapping some 400,000 Palestinians and forcing at least two women to give birth inside ambulances, according to Israeli NGO Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI).

The closure, in effect from 18:00 local time on Saturday, has blocked access for both ambulances and private vehicles, PHRI stated. Emergency services sources confirmed that two women were unable to reach hospitals and delivered in ambulances as a result.

PHRI further detailed that a third woman gave birth at a clinic in the village of Aqraba after medical teams could not evacuate her for hospital care. In a separate incident, an ambulance transporting a patient through a nearby settlement was turned back after being denied passage.

Dialysis patients are also stranded at Israeli checkpoints – some inside ambulances, others in private cars – and are unable to access life-sustaining treatment, according to emergency sources cited by the NGO.

Israel maintains more than 900 barriers across the West Bank – including checkpoints, metal fences and portable speed bumps – to restrict or monitor Palestinian movement in governorates such as Nablus, Hebron, Bethlehem and Tulkarem, according to the account.
