Iran announced progress on Sunday in talks with Oman over managing the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions with the United States escalate following the collapse of the truce and Iran’s Parliament considers legislation to tighten control over the strategic waterway, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei.
Deputy foreign ministers from both countries held several rounds of discussions on Friday and Saturday in Tehran, addressing common principles and operational mechanisms for safe navigation while respecting the sovereign rights of the two riparian states, Baqaei said.
He described the talks as useful and confirmed that advances were made, adding that the Omani delegation left the Iranian capital on Saturday afternoon, though technical and political consultations continue.

The spokesman also stated that no change has occurred in the maritime transit situation through the strait.
The two nations share control over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil passed before the U.S. war of aggression against Iran began on February 28.

The negotiations come as both sides seek regulatory mechanisms for navigation after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard imposed restrictions on maritime traffic in the area. In late June, Oman – with US backing – launched a temporary, fee-exempt maritime corridor to ease transit. Iran retaliated by attacking vessels using that route, prompting Washington to intensify its bombing campaigns on Iranian civil infrastructure.
Amid the escalation, Tehran again closed the strait on 5 July, and the United States reinstated a naval blockade on Iranian ports and ships in the zone – a measure that had been suspended after a now obsolete mid-June memorandum of understanding between the parties, according to the official account.
