The Democratic Republic of the Congo has confirmed 3,075 Ebola cases and 1,354 deaths from an outbreak declared on 15 May in the country’s east, with data collected up to 24 July showing a case fatality rate of 44%, according to the Ministry of Communication and Media.
Seven hundred and fifty-five patients are currently in isolation or hospitalisation, while 556 people have recovered, the ministry’s latest bulletin reported. Contact tracing coverage stands at 76.4%.
Five provinces have been affected so far: Ituri, which is the epicentre, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele and Tshopo.

The ministry said epidemiological data are now more precise, adding that contact tracing continues to advance and that reinforced surveillance and diagnostic capacities—including an additional laboratory—are improving case detection and confirmation in affected areas.
However, the National Institute of Public Health warned in its own bulletin that the data indicate the epidemic remains in a phase of continued transmission with a high level of virus circulation.
The outbreak, first declared on 15 May in Ituri, a province bordering South Sudan and Uganda, has also spread to that second country, according to the authorities.
