Portugal, Greece and Italy have dispatched 176 personnel, 41 vehicles and four Canadair aircraft to help extinguish the severe wildfires burning in Madrid and Ávila, with ground and air units arriving across Saturday and Sunday, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
Portugal is providing the largest ground contingent, with 129 personnel and 41 vehicles that arrived on Saturday night in Navaluenga (Ávila) and are scheduled to begin operations on Sunday.

The Portuguese fleet includes one bulldozer, nine command vehicles, two light fire trucks, 14 heavy fire trucks, five heavy water tankers, one light water tanker, one mobile advanced medical post, one UAS vehicle, four logistics support vehicles and three basic life support ambulances, according to the ministry’s breakdown.
Greece joined the operation on Sunday with 33 personnel, two Canadair aircraft and one support aircraft.

Italy, responding to the request for aid through the EU’s European Civil Protection Mechanism, incorporated 14 personnel and two Canadair aircraft on Saturday.
