Yemen’s Houthi claimed Saturday to have launched missile and drone attacks on facilities of Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s largest oil company, in retaliation for Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on the port city of Hodeidah.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement that the first operation targeted “sensitive” Aramco facilities in Jazan, in the southwest of the country, with “dozens of ballistic missiles and drones,” while a second operation attacked the oil company’s facilities in Yanbu.
The spokesman claimed that both operations achieved their objectives with “precise and direct” impacts, while Saudi authorities did not immediately comment on the matter.
The statement came after the Saudi-led coalition — which has intervened in the Yemen war since 2015 to support the internationally recognized government — carried out overnight airstrikes against military targets in Yemen’s Hodeidah province, on the Red Sea.

The coalition claimed to have carried out a “proportionate military response” against legitimate Houthi military targets linked to threats against commercial shipping, while denying rebel claims that Hodeidah port had been attacked.
The Houthis maintain that the attacks hit the city of Hodeidah, its port, and Kamaran Island, and called them a violation of Yemen’s sovereignty.
Sarea also claimed that Houthi air defenses intercepted coalition aircraft during the attacks and prevented them from carrying out further strikes.
The spokesman said that the group’s maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia remains in effect, and claimed that it was a response to what the rebels describe as a prolonged Saudi blockade against Yemen.
He also warned that the Houthis are prepared to expand their military operations and escalate tensions in the coming hours and days, under their declared strategy of “blockade for blockade and escalation for escalation.”
