The Tudeh Party of Iran has issued a strong condemnation of the latest U.S. military attacks against Iran, denouncing what it describes as the third direct act of U.S. imperialist aggression against the country and warning that Washington’s escalating military campaign threatens to plunge the region into an even more devastating conflict.
In a statement released on 17 July, the communist party accuses the United States of committing war crimes through attacks on civilian infrastructure, including transportation networks, railway lines, airports, grain storage facilities, water production plants and maritime installations.
According to the Tudeh Party, these attacks have caused significant civilian casualties and represent flagrant violations of international law. The party argues that the latest military offensive marks “a new stage” in U.S. imperialist strategy aimed at securing full control over the Strait of Hormuz and other strategic waterways in order to safeguard the geopolitical interests of Washington and its ally, Israel. It rejects claims that the United States seeks a negotiated settlement, asserting instead that the warmongers in Washington and the Israeli government have consistently pursued a prolonged war designed to weaken Iran and destroy its infrastructure.
The statement also warns that continued military escalation could serve as a pretext for a direct U.S. ground invasion and the occupation of Iran’s southern, oil-producing regions.
Referring to remarks attributed to U.S. Vice President JD Vance, the Tudeh Party notes allegations that forces linked to Israel have actively sought to sabotage diplomatic efforts and prolong the conflict indefinitely.
At the same time, the Iranian communists direct sharp criticism at reactionary forces within Iran itself. The party argues that sections of the Islamic Republic’s ruling establishment are reviving the disastrous slogan of “War, War Until Victory”—the policy pursued during the Iran-Iraq War—which, it says, brought immense destruction before ending in what Ayatollah Khomeini himself described as accepting a ceasefire “like drinking from a poisoned chalice.” The statement further recalls that the end of that war was followed by the mass execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988.
According to the Tudeh Party, today’s advocates of continued confrontation are once again exploiting nationalist rhetoric while exaggerating Iran’s military capabilities. Citing even warnings published in newspapers affiliated with the Islamic Republic, the statement argues that “war profiteers” and extremist elements are pushing policies that risk dragging the country into another catastrophic conflict.
The party further contends that external aggression provides the hardline establishment with an opportunity to reinforce its weakened grip on power. It argues that a state of war enables the authorities to suppress political dissent, intensify repression, justify executions, and divert attention from deepening economic and social crises, including widespread poverty, unemployment, electricity shortages and water scarcity affecting millions of working people.
The statement points to opinion polls conducted within Iran itself, claiming that the overwhelming majority of the population opposes the continuation of the war and instead seeks a negotiated agreement capable of securing lasting peace.
Rejecting both U.S. imperialist intervention and the policies of the Islamic Republic’s hardliners, the Tudeh Party insists that continued military escalation serves neither the Iranian people nor the country’s national interests. Instead, it argues, the conflict advances the strategic objectives of U.S. imperialism and the Israeli government while simultaneously strengthening reactionary forces inside Iran.
The party concludes by calling on progressive, democratic and freedom-seeking forces inside Iran and internationally to mobilize public opinion against the war, oppose the aggressive policies of U.S. imperialism and Israel, and build a broad anti-war movement capable of preventing Iran from being driven into yet another devastating military confrontation.
