Chargé d’Affaires Mike Hammer, the top U.S. diplomat in Cuba, refused to answer questions from Belly of the Beast. Hammer was in the town of Bejucal, on the outskirts of Havana, observing the first shipment of the U.S. government’s $100 million aid package. The first delivery consists of 700 aid kits, which include 10 days’ worth of non-perishable food and hygiene products. The food handouts will surely be welcomed by many Cubans, who are suffering extreme hardships due to a lack of electricity, medicine, food, public transportation and other basic social services the government has been unable to provide due to U.S. economic warfare. Hammer and other U.S. officials have touted the aid, which is the equivalent of breaking someone’s legs and then taking credit for offering them some aspirin. Belly of the Beast was in Bejucal and tried to ask Hammer about the aid program and its significance. But Hammer, who often appears in interviews during frequent visits to Miami, declined to answer any questions and got into his SUV, which sped off.
