The Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti), Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez, held a working meeting with China’s ambassador to Mexico, Chen Daojiang, with the aim of promoting Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and electromobility projects that strengthen bilateral cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
At the meeting at Secihti, Secretary Rosaura Ruiz noted that China’s strengths, added to Mexico’s capacities, open opportunities to promote joint projects in priority areas for both countries, oriented toward the training and mobility of young scientists, joint research, and the development of projects in artificial intelligence, supercomputing, robotics, electromobility, semiconductors, energy, and other strategic technologies.
As an example of bilateral work, she highlighted the research project between the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, focused on agricultural pest control through the study of insecticidal proteins produced by the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis.
She noted that collaboration opportunities with Huawei are being explored on strategic projects related to research, technological development, and the training of specialized talent, particularly in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.
At the same time, Rosaura Ruiz expressed her interest in expanding academic exchange through the mobility of students and researchers, as well as strengthening research-stay, postdoctoral, and sabbatical programs, with the goal of consolidating a closely linked scientific community.
For his part, Ambassador Chen Daojiang reiterated the interest in continuing to strengthen this bilateral work in scientific and technological matters with Mexico, highlighting that both countries have a solid track record of institutional collaboration.
He said this is an opportunity to promote new projects that favor innovation, talent exchange, and scientific development for the benefit of both nations.
“If we review the history between Mexico and China, cooperation in science and technology is experiencing spectacular progress.”
