UN agencies reported on July 23, that 67% of the population in Gaza suffer from acute food insecurity due to the ongoing Israeli military blockade restricting essential humanitarian aid.
The World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) officially estimated that approximately 1.4 million people in the Gaza Strip currently suffer from acute food insecurity. This devastating figure represents 67% of the total population in the Palestinian enclave.
While these statistics show a minor improvement compared to the 1.6 million people (77%) documented at the end of 2025, international agencies stress that the overall situation remains catastrophic.

Specifically, UN experts reported that 212,000 people now face phase four of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), which denotes a severe humanitarian emergency. The IPC scale categorizes hunger into five distinct levels: general food security, chronic food security, food crisis, humanitarian emergency, and famine or catastrophe. Currently, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians remain trapped on the brink of absolute starvation due to the ongoing blockade.
Furthermore, the distribution of essential humanitarian aid is becoming increasingly difficult in territories adjacent to the Israeli military control line. Tight access restrictions imposed by occupation forces actively block the entry and delivery of life-saving food supplies and critical humanitarian services to the civilian population in these conflict zones.

Catastrophic Health Collapse
The outlook for the upcoming year is increasingly grim. Humanitarian projections indicate that approximately 74,000 Gazan children will require urgent specialized treatment for acute malnutrition. Furthermore, an estimated 25,000 pregnant and lactating women will require immediate nutritional support to counter the severe effects of prolonged food deprivation.
The ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza has claimed the lives of at least 73,300 Palestinians and left more than 173,900 injured since October 2023, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. This offensive has systematically dismantled vital civilian infrastructure, leaving the entire population exposed to extreme vulnerability.
Additionally, the continuous military occupation has completely broken the Gaza healthcare system. The complete destruction of dozens of medical centers and hospitals has caused a total collapse of essential medical care. This collapse has accelerated the spread of severe infectious diseases among millions of displaced families who lack access to clean water, medicine, or proper shelter.
