India has been gripped by a wave of Gen-Z protests. There were 50,000 protesters who marched in Delhi on Monday to demand a reform of the eduction system and for the education minister to resign, pressuring prime minister Narendra Modi to promise he will punish corrupt officials and post on X that “nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth”. It’s been called the “cockroach” movement, after India’s chief justice – its highest-ranking judicial officer – reportedly compared unemployed young people to cockroaches and parasites.
