Satellite imagery shows the barrier extending beyond the Yellow Line as a disease outbreak deepens Gaza’s health crisis.

Israel is rapidly expanding a large earth barrier beyond the Yellow Line in the Gaza Strip, according to satellite imagery and confirmation from the Israeli military, reinforcing its control over more than half of the Palestinian enclave while a worsening public health emergency unfolds.

The Israeli military told the international press that the barrier is intended to prevent infiltrations and protect Israeli troops as well as nearby Israeli communities. Referring to satellite imagery, the military confirmed it has built a physical barrier along the area known as the Yellow Line, the boundary to which Israeli forces withdrew under the October ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

Satellite images indicate that more than 23 kilometers (14 miles) of the barrier have been constructed in recent months, cutting through Palestinian communities demolished by the Israeli military. The structure now stretches across more than half of the Gaza Strip, a coastal territory measuring approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) in length and 11 kilometers (7 miles) at its widest point, where more than two million Palestinians live.

The Yellow Line was established as a temporary military boundary pending a broader Israeli withdrawal under the ceasefire agreement. However, with the truce at an impasse, the continued expansion of the barrier has heightened Palestinian concerns that the line is evolving into a permanent frontier.

Barrier extends beyond the Yellow Line

In southern Gaza, the barrier extends more than one kilometer beyond the Yellow Line. Near Khan Younis, sections of the structure reach approximately 400 meters past the boundary along Salah al-Din Road, the main route connecting northern and southern Gaza. In Rafah, the barrier extends roughly 1,300 meters beyond the line in one area.

Satellite imagery also shows that Israeli forces have systematically leveled large areas surrounding the Yellow Line, destroying towns and agricultural land, constructing new road networks, and establishing military bases on the sites of former Palestinian communities. The expansion has been described as an effort to further divide the Gaza Strip.

According to the information provided, Israeli forces have continued advancing beyond the Yellow Line and establishing permanent outposts since the launch of the U.S. peace plan in October 2025 and the subsequent ceasefire.

Health crisis worsens

The territorial expansion is taking place alongside a deepening health emergency in Gaza. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have completely destroyed dozens of hospitals, contributing to the collapse of the healthcare system and the spread of infectious diseases.

A chickenpox outbreak is now spreading across the Palestinian city. According to Doctors in Gaza, nearly 10,000 cases have recently been recorded in displacement camps.

“The situation requires urgent intervention. Medicines, medical supplies and healthcare services must be delivered before the crisis worsens,” said Dr. Mohammad Abu Afash, Director of Medical Relief in the Gaza Strip.

The reported expansion of the barrier and the deterioration of public health conditions are unfolding as the ceasefire remains stalled and humanitarian conditions continue to worsen across Gaza.
