Nicolas Maduro Guerra, son of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro and deputy of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), has marked 200 days since the kidnapping following the U.S. military aggression.
“200 days of not hugging my dad, of not hearing Cilia in person, of not being able to shake her hand,” Maduro Guerra expressed in an audiovisual message released on his Telegram channel, commemorating the milestone of an illegal detention perpetrated by U.S. military forces on January 3.

The lawmaker emphasized that the separation has paradoxically served to unite the family and strengthen the people’s commitment to Venezuela’s sovereignty. “This separation has served to unite us, to find each other, to embrace each other, to ratify the love that unites us as a family,” he stated, adding that it has reinforced the commitment of a people seeking prosperity and the right to choose their own destiny.

Maduro Guerra highlighted that the country’s political leadership resolved to address any conflict through diplomatic channels, thanking Acting President Delcy Rodriguez and the political team for making the decision to open diplomatic avenues for the nation’s benefit. “For the good of the country, they opened the diplomatic channel to resolve any differences that may exist, that do exist and that will exist,” he noted.
“We are a decent family, hardworking, honest, whose only desire has been, is and always will be the prosperity of the people of Venezuela,” he underscored.
Diplomatic Path Pursued
Venezuela’s leadership decided to resolve conflicts through peaceful negotiations, prioritizing dialogue over confrontation despite the severity of the aggression. Nicolas Maduro Guerra expressed gratitude for the diplomatic strategy adopted by the government in the face of what he characterized as a violation of international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty.
The January 3 military operation by U.S. forces resulted in President Maduro’s detention abroad, triggering widespread condemnation from allied governments and international organizations. Venezuela has consistently called for the President’s release and return, arguing that the detention constitutes a violation of diplomatic norms and international law governing state sovereignty.
Maduro Guerra concluded by affirming that the Venezuelan people will overcome all difficulties, aggressions and even natural disasters, transforming pain into strength to move forward. “We will continue following the path of Bolivar, Chavez and Nicolas,” he stated, invoking the historical continuity of Venezuela’s anti-colonial and revolutionary project.
The deputy’s message comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts by the Venezuelan government to secure President Maduro’s release. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez has maintained communication with various international actors to advance negotiations, while also managing the country’s domestic response to the double earthquake of June 24 that affected thousands of families across multiple states.
The Venezuelan government has framed the detention within the broader context of what it describes as ongoing U.S. aggression against the country, including economic sanctions, diplomatic isolation and support for regime change efforts.
