On Tuesday, Hector Rodriguez, the minister for Social and Territorial Socialism, announced that the Venezuelan government will launch a special personalized educational support program for children and adolescents who were seriously injured during the June earthquakes.

The initiative seeks to safeguard their schooling and socialization by addressing both mobility impairments and the psychological trauma resulting from the disaster.
Previously, on July 19, when Venezuelans traditionally celebrate Children’s Day, Acting President Delcy Rodriguez reaffirmed her commitment to restoring the well-being of the nation’s youngest members.
“In every boy and girl, we see the hope for a bright future for Venezuela. They are the tenderness that illuminates our present and the strength that will drive the rebirth of our nation. In their dreams, the Venezuela we will build together is born, because in them lies the certainty of our best future,” she said.
On July 20, the Venezuelan government presented a consolidated emergency operations report. Official records currently show 5,278 fatalities and 16,740 injuries, with 128,324 families having received direct assistance amid the catastrophe.
After a meeting with earthquake victims, the Social and Territorial Socialism minister issued the following statement on social media:
“We spoke with the families of the children and adolescents who were seriously injured during the double earthquake and who will require special support to promote their development, mobility and independence.
During this meeting, we listened to one another and confirmed that recognizing one another, learning each person’s story, showing solidarity with every family’s reality and helping one another eases the soul and gives us strength to face new challenges.
We assessed the state’s capabilities and technical cooperation to ensure specialized medical care and the use of prosthetics, according to the benefits they provide for their lives.
Concrete proposals were put forward for the acquisition of new homes that would incorporate specific criteria to protect the mobility and safety of the children, adolescents and their families.
A special program for personalized educational support will be launched to ensure that their academic participation and socialization are safeguarded and include the necessary accommodations.
We will also continue providing the essential psychological support needed to overcome the emotional and physical challenges experienced by the entire family.
We believe it is necessary to offer alternatives so that the adults who care for them with such dedication and love can achieve economic stability and peace of mind.
To that end, we will activate various options, including productive loans, special support for entrepreneurial ventures and their inclusion in the country’s bonus system.
We join the families’ call and ask for respect for the privacy of every child and adolescent who is going through such an important and difficult change at this time.
Public and private institutions must commit to guaranteeing this fundamental right and to working together for their well-being, a higher mandate that we must uphold.”
