Venezuelan Acting President Rodriguez Vows Reconstruction After June Earthquakes

Humanitarian response has reached more than 128,000 families as death toll rises to 5,208.

On Sunday, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez led a tribute to those who took part in the rescue operations for the victims of the earthquakes that struck La Guaira on June 24.

She paid tribute to the dedication of the members of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), police forces and security agencies, who “continued the search and rescue operations with honor while wearing their uniforms.”

“We are going to rebuild the state of La Guaira and the affected areas of Caracas, Miranda, Aragua, Yaracuy, Falcon and Carabobo,” she said, emphasizing that the collective effort will result in concrete solutions for the affected families.

Rodriguez also expressed her deep admiration for the rescuers, who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to searching for and rescuing their fellow citizens despite the fact that many of them suffered the loss of their own families during the natural disaster.

After recognizing the courage they demonstrated in the field, the Venezuelan acting president called for transforming that strength into a driving force to move the country forward.

“I ask that the spirit of this historic mobilization to overcome ourselves in the midst of pain now be transformed into the hardworking hands of recovery and reconstruction,” she said.

“Let us also build a new ethic for Venezuelan society, an ethic of love and understanding, an ethic of cooperation for those who need it,” Rodriguez said, pointing out that the solidarity shown during the emergency must become a standard of daily coexistence based on mutual support and empathy.

“Let nothing stop us! Let hope rise above pain! Let us rebuild ourselves as a people with brotherhood and happiness above emotional or physical wounds!”

Humanitarian Assistance Continues and Intensifies

On Sunday, the Venezuelan government presented a new official update on the emergency operations following the impact of the June earthquakes.

Assistance for the victims continues through the deployment of 62,000 personnel, including 31,745 national volunteers and 2,278 international rescuers. They have assisted more than 128,000 affected families.

To date, 39,935 patients have received medical care at the various health centers established for the emergency. To ensure the subsistence of those displaced by the disaster, the Venezuelan government has distributed 10,964 metric tons of food and more than 35.6 million liters of drinking water.

Currently, 23,820 people are being sheltered in 107 temporary camps designed to provide refuge for the 17,907 citizens who lost their homes. So far, the June earthquakes have left 5,208 people dead and 16,740 injured.
