The race for the 2026 World Cup Best Young Player award is heating up, with four rising stars emerging as the leading contenders after standout performances throughout the tournament.

Spain’s Lamine Yamal is among the favourites after playing a key role in his country’s run to the final, further strengthening his reputation as one of world football’s brightest young talents. His teammate Pau Cubarsí has also entered the conversation, becoming a reliable presence in Spain’s defence during their title challenge.

The Spanish duo are not the only contenders, however. France’s Désiré Doué has impressed throughout Les Bleus’ run to the semi-finals, making a major impact with his attacking ability and decisive contributions during the knockout stages.

England’s nominee, defender Nico Aurélie, has also emerged as one of the tournament’s breakout stars under Thomas Tuchel. Having started most of England’s matches, the defender has impressed with his composure on the ball, recording a 93 per cent pass accuracy rate, while producing strong defensive displays — including a standout performance against Norway, where he helped contain striker Erling Haaland, according to FIFA statistics.

With the semi-finals and final still to come, the battle for the award remains wide open. These four young talents will have one final chance to strengthen their cases before FIFA decides who will be crowned the 2026 World Cup Best Young Player.
