On Thursday, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez met with Anne Lemaistre, director of UNESCO’s Regional Office for Culture, to coordinate actions to address the impacts of the June earthquakes.

They established a shared technical roadmap for the design and formulation of a comprehensive assistance plan, which will be implemented with strict respect for Venezuela’s national sovereignty and legislation.
The priority objectives of the partnership focus on ensuring educational continuity and school reconstruction, working in coordination with the Ministry of Territorial Socialism.
The plan also includes key agreements with the scientific and environmental sectors, as well as specialized assistance in temporary camps.
Also attending the meeting were Vice Minister for Europe and North America Oliver Blanco, Vice Minister for Multilateral Affairs Alexander Yanez, and Venezuela’s ambassador to UNESCO, Ernesto Villegas.
On July 13, Lemaistre arrived in Venezuela to carry out an extensive work agenda that includes meetings with government authorities, business leaders and various social stakeholders.
Acting President Rodriguez Meets with Hadja Lahbib
On Thursday, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez reviewed progress in post-earthquake cooperation with the European Union during a meeting with Hadja Lahbib, the European Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality.
During the meeting, Rodriguez expressed gratitude for the timely activation of the “European Civil Protection Mechanism,” which enabled the immediate deployment of search and rescue teams.
She also discussed the current support the European bloc is providing during the recovery, reconstruction, and assistance phase for those affected.
Earlier, in recognition of their efforts to save lives, the Bolivarian government awarded each European Union rescuer the country’s highest honor, the “Hero of Venezuela” decoration.
Also attending the meeting with Lahbib were European officials including Pierre-Henri Helleput, charge d’affaires in Venezuela; Jan Joog-Martens, head of the commissioner’s Cabinet; Andrea Kouraiman, director for Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, the South, the East, Southeast Asia and the Pacific; Pelayo Castro, director for the Americas; and Loya Borissova, Cabinet expert.
Through this productive technical agenda, both sides reaffirmed their willingness to coordinate humanitarian efforts and strengthen international cooperation during emergencies.
