Calls are intensifying for India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign as several students with the All-India Students’ Association have joined an indefinite hunger strike. The hunger strike is led by activist Sonam Wangchuk, who’s been fasting since June 28 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They say Narendra Modi’s far-right BJP-led government has waged an “unprecedented and singular attack on public education,” and is showing “criminal indifference" to Wangchuk’s deteriorating health. The growing youth-led movement is also demanding major reforms to the country’s education and exam systems, as well as compensation for the families of students who have died by suicide connected to exam irregularities and results.
