On Thursday, Georgian President Mikhail Kavelashvili and his Turkmen counterpart, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, met in Tbilisi to discuss the development of the Middle Corridor, a strategic route connecting China with Europe.

The Georgian presidential administration emphasized that special attention was given to strengthening trade and economic ties, as well as cooperation in energy, transportation, and logistics.

Kavelashvili stated that Georgia, as a key link between Europe and Asia, seeks to strengthen transit routes, including the ports of Poti and Batumi and the new deep-water port on the Black Sea in Anaklia.

The Turkmen president was also scheduled to meet with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to expand the agenda for bilateral cooperation in various strategic sectors.

Bilateral trade reached approximately US$103 million in 2025, US$20 million more than in 2024, reflecting sustained growth in economic relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan.

Georgian analyst David Kartvelishvili noted that Turkmenistan seeks reliable access to the Black Sea through Georgia, while Georgia aims to strengthen its role as a transit country to Europe.

In early July, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Georgia and signed a Declaration on Strategic Partnership, strengthening regional cooperation within the framework of the Middle Corridor.

In June, the Georgian Prime Minister paid official visits to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan, signing a document on strategic partnership with the latter, thus consolidating ties with Central Asia.
