I know people who utterly despise Trump, and yet when it comes to war crimes they’re willing to believe they’re either accidents (Minab) or that the victims were probably guilty (the South American fishermen who they believe may have been drug smugglers; no there’s no point telling them that that’s still murder; if you’re from the global South you’re either a perfect victim or else anything goes)

They hate Trump for their own sakes, they couldn’t give a damn what he does to people in the global South (and are even willing to get back in line), and I explicitly mention the global South because they’re still deeply concerned with how we look in front of Euros; that Trevor Noah line in response to someone complaining about Ukraine being a Western country and not used to violence, saying ‘yeah because the colored are so used to it’ will never stop ringing in my ears. I’m also reminded of when Michael Moore won an award and used his speech to criticize Bush, he got cheers, but when he criticized the Iraq war they booed him and cut his mic.
