On Monday ICE agents serving an unrelated warrant profiled, detained, and then shot and killed Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a 26-year-old Colombian man with a Social Security number, authorization to live and work in the United States – and his partner and three-year-old daughter next to him in the car. Spontaneous protests at the site of the shooting in Biddeford, Maine have spread to cities across the US, joining calls for justice for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, the Houston man killed by ICE last week, and reigniting mass demands for justice in the wake of more murders at the hands of federal agents. Meanwhile the Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday announced it would stop doing vehicle stops to “retrain” its agents to do so without killing.
