Now organizations providing free food are being hit with citations for “illegal street vending” that can even lead to arrests. This loophole was introduced as a backdoor during the FIFA games, even though a similar law was defeated after community pushback. Activists say there is a high likelihood these new laws are here to stay well after the games. Dallas leads the country in hunger with 1.3 million people who are food-insecure – while SNAP benefits are ending.
