Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent early Tuesday morning, July 7, as the 35-year Houston resident was on his way to pick up his construction crew for work. DHS claims Araujo, who was born in Mexico and had no criminal record, attempted to weaponize his van against federal agents, an allegation his family vehemently rejects. No video of the shooting has been released. More than a thousand people marched in Houston Wednesday to demand a full and transparent independent investigation into Araujo’s killing and compensation for his family, and for an end to ICE ambush attacks on the city. Araujo’s son Ronaldo Salgado told reporters: “He deserved to live a quiet life as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo — a husband, a father, and a job creator for dozens of men who also wanted the American dream.” Nationwide more than 10,000 people have been arrested by ICE in the last five days – a surge that has gone largely unreported as DHS has shifted tactics away from massive federal troop deployments. Where’s the outrage from Trump’s so-called “opposition” in Congress? Zoe Alexandra and Rania Khalek break down the federal government’s latest extrajudicial killing by untrained masked agents on taxpayer salaries.
