Salina Cruz, Oax. As part of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) project, promoted during the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, last night the ship Glovis Condor arrived at the dock of the National Port System Administration (Asipona) in Salina Cruz, having set sail from the port of Masan, in South Korea, with 3,000 Hyundai vehicles that will be transported along the CIIT lines to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to be shipped again toward the east coast of the United States.

The transport of the vehicles will be carried out using Bi-Max and Tri-Max type railcars of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railway (FIT), which arrived in Salina Cruz yesterday morning for the interoceanic crossing from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico, and then to send them to the U.S. market.

This will be the second crossing of Hyundai cars through the CIIT; the first was in March 2025, when, as part of the CIIT pilot tests, 900 units were transported along the same route. Now there are 3,000 new vehicles that set sail from South Korea this past June 22, and they will be in Coatzacoalcos on July 12 for a journey that will last 20 days.

According to local authorities, Hyundai’s confidence consolidates the CIIT as an important means for transporting goods between destinations around the world, and in particular Asia and the Americas.

The idea of establishing an industrial development in the Isthmus through which intermediate and final goods would be produced had been pending for several six-year terms, with the so-called special economic zones that would be granted as concessions to private investors.

The project promoted by López Obrador set the goal of modernizing the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railway as the backbone for moving goods between the ports of Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos.
