The 26-year-old forward became the target of criticism and threats on social media after the match between the Colombian and Swiss national teams, played last Tuesday in Vancouver, Canada, as part of the World Cup.
In an official statement, the FCF categorically rejected the threats and expressed its full solidarity and support for Jámison Campaz, his family, and the entire Colombian National Team delegation. The governing body of football in the country urged the judicial entity to expedite the necessary investigations to identify, prosecute, and punish those responsible for these acts.
The match for a place in the quarterfinals ended 0-0 in regulation time. During the 114th minute of extra time, Campaz deflected a shot that could have meant victory. Subsequently, in the penalty shootout, Colombia lost 4-3 to Switzerland, a result that sealed the elimination of the Colombian team managed by Argentine coach Néstor Lorenzo.

Following the elimination, criticism of the team intensified, along with direct threats against Campaz, who had previously scored the third goal in the 3-1 victory against Uzbekistan in the team’s opening match of the tournament. Due to the threats he received, the player, who also plays for the Argentine club Rosario Central, decided not to return to Colombia after the World Cup to ensure his safety and that of his family.
Through his Instagram account, the footballer posted a message to the fans: “I deeply regret not being able to give you the joy we all hoped for, but I want you to know that my dedication, commitment, and love for this jersey were never lacking. I gave everything I had on the field, and I would do it again a thousand times for my country,” Campaz stated.
The Federation reiterated that the athletes who wear the national jersey approach competition with discipline, commitment, professionalism, and a deep love for their country, and therefore none should be subjected to reprisals.
The institution emphasized that football should be a space for unity, respect, and hope, never a stage for hatred, intimidation, or violence, calling on the public to ensure that sporting rivalry does not escalate into aggression.
