Bahaa Abu Al-Ajeen, 32, set out with his 3-year-old son Rayan to check on their family home east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza at approximately 5:00 pm on June 14. According to Bahaa, the area appeared safe and deserted. He said there were no visible soldiers, no gunfire, and no drones overhead. “The area was safe. If I had felt any danger, I would never have gone there,” he said.
