
On Thursday, the ERC, Comuns, and CUP parliamentary groups registered a proposed resolution in the Parliament of Catalonia urging the regional government to bar Israel from participating in the World Climbing Europe Championship, to be held from July 17 to 19 in Montmeló, Barcelona province.

During a press conference, ERC deputy Ana Balsera justified the initiative to denounce the presence of a genocidal state representatives and called on the Catalan parliament to rise to the occasion and uphold its humanitarian commitments.
For his part, Comuns deputy Andrés Garcia Berrio considered it essential that the government consistently defend international law, taking into account previous resolutions. Garcia Berrio clarified that the measure does not prohibit Israeli athletes from competing individually, but focuses strictly on the state official representation.
From the CUP party, MP Laure Vega appealed for the necessary political will to respond to the outcry of the Palestinian and Catalan people regarding this competition.

The text reads, “At GRAVITEO, it’s not just about watching: it’s about participating. From July 17 to 19, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya transforms into a massive urban sports park, with events designed so the public can live the experience from the inside.”
Meanwhile, Alys Samson, spokesperson for the organization Prou Complicitat amb Israel (Enough Complicity with Israel), explained that they have sent the same request to the Catalan Government General Secretariat of Sports and demanded that the competition not be held if the Israeli federation does not accept the veto.
Civil society representatives also participated in the event. Mazeed Khalilia, the Palestinian Community in Catalonia vice president, described it as shameful that the Catalan and Spanish administrations are allowing the delegation’s visit, demanding a complete break in relations with Israel in all areas.
