President Sheinbaum expressed indignation over the mistreatment of migrants in the United States.
On Wednesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that her administration would take legal measures following the death of Mexican citizen Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot dead by an agent from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Houston.

Speaking at her daily press conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum expressed indignation over the mistreatment of Mexican migrants in the U.S. and said Mexico needed to go beyond traditional diplomatic notes.
“Our goal is to go beyond diplomatic notes and what we have raised before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, because we cannot allow the mistreatment of our brothers and sisters who are in the United States, our fellow nationals. So we are considering other measures,” she said.
Salgado Araujo was intercepted by federal agents while on his way to work. His son, Ronaldo Salgado, described him as a “hard-working Mexican man.” Sheinbaum said his only “offense” was “not having papers.”

In an attempt to justify what happened, a spokesman for the U.S. government told the EFE news agency that Salgado used his vehicle “as a weapon” and tried to run over one of the officers, who fired in “self-defense.”
In March, the Mexican government joined a class-action lawsuit against ICE following the death of another immigrant, as part of the efforts to protect the rights of Mexican migrants.
Sheinbaum said legal action would be a priority for her government in response to the latest incident, with the aim of preventing future tragedies and safeguarding the security and dignity of Mexican migrants in the United States.
