The Morena caucus in the Chamber of Deputies has proposed creating a “National Real Estate Alert” as a strategy against real estate seizures. With it, it proposes that any property owner be immediately notified when another person attempts to modify the legal status of their property. After citing several cases of seizure in the country’s capital and in the state of México, the bill by federal deputy Elena Edith Segura Trejo states that the objective is to address a problem of national scope.
The legislator explained that the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City reported more than 20,000 investigation files for seizure between 2020 and April 2026. In addition, in the state of México, 5,594 complaints were reported during 2025. These are “figures that show the need for a comprehensive strategy to confront this crime,” she stated through a press release.
She warned that behind numerous cases of this type, organized groups operate that use forged deeds, fraudulent powers of attorney, irregular notifications, simulated trials, and identity theft, even with the possible participation of lawyers, notaries, or public servants, and she maintained that older adults are among the main victims of these practices.
The proposal, she emphasized, “is based on the premise that the protection of property must be a cause of justice and not a partisan issue.”
