After finishing top of Group K ahead of Portugal, Nestor Lorenzo’s side continued their strong World Cup campaign with a composed performance against Ghana in the Round of 32.
Ghana threatened inside the opening two minutes when Thomas Partey unleashed a powerful long-range effort. Colombia responded by taking control of possession and broke the deadlock after Luis Suarez, who had replaced the injured Jhon Cordoba, advanced down the right flank before squaring the ball for Jhon Arias to guide a first-time finish into the bottom corner.

Colombia created several chances to increase their lead before halftime. Luis Diaz fired wide from inside the area, while Lawrence Ati-Zigi produced a sharp reaction save to keep out Johan Mojica’s downward header.
Diaz thought he had doubled Colombia’s advantage in the 56th minute after converting Arias’ cross, but the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside. Minutes later, the forward was denied again when Ati-Zigi saved his close-range effort.

Although the margin remained narrow, Colombia stayed organized defensively throughout the second half and prevented Ghana from registering a single shot on target.
Colombia will return to action on 7 July in Vancouver, where they will face Switzerland for a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals.
