The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro was illuminated on Thursday with a projection of Venezuela’s waving flag and an “SOS Venezuela” message reading “Solidarity Without Borders. Donate Now,” as part of a campaign by the Brazilian Catholic Church and Caritas Foundation to raise funds for families affected by the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24, according to a statement from the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.

The projection transformed the 38‑meter‑high monumen into a beacon of solidarity to encourage support for Venezuelans in Brazil and worldwide. Donations will be used to purchase food, drinking water, medicine, and other essentials, as well as to support community initiatives for rebuilding hope.

The latest official tally reports at least 2,295 dead and 11,267 injured from the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude quakes. La Guaira, about 30 kilometers from Caracas, has been the hardest-hit state along with the capital.

Venezuela’s Government is mobilizing comprehensive relief efforts, ensuring vital supplies reach affected communities.
