“This is not simply a blockade. This is an act of war.” Illinois Rep. Jonathan Jackson demanded an end to the US blockade on Cuba in a press conference on Tuesday. Jackson condemned the severe medicine shortages caused by the blockade, as well as the lack of fuel Cuban hospitals faced, which has forced doctors to use flashlights on their phones to perform surgery. The press conference was organized by National Nurses United, the country’s largest union of registered nurses.
