The Communist Party of China (CPC) celebrated the 105th anniversary of its founding on Wednesday, marking the occasion with a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing led by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, who used the event to reaffirm the party’s central role in the country’s governance, stability and long-term development.
The party added more than one million new members over the past year, bringing its total membership to 101.29 million as of the end of 2025, according to the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

The party’s grassroots presence has also grown, reaching 5.43 million basic-level organizations spread across administrative levels, public institutions and social sectors, the Organization Department said.
Women now account for 31.5% of party membership, while ethnic minorities make up 7.8%, or 7.88 million people, figures that reflect generational renewal and broader social inclusion within the organization.
Latest figures show that membership of the Communist Party of China has reached 101.286 million. In his address at the ceremony, Xi said the party’s efforts had transformed the future of the Chinese people and demonstrated the vitality of Marxism, while also shaping the course of world history and strengthening the CPC as an organization.
The Chinese president stated that the party has served as the driving force behind the country’s major transformations since its founding in Shanghai in 1921 and since the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
Founded amid instability and poverty, the party went on to lead the country’s national transformation through a history that includes the Long March under Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai, an alliance during the Second Sino-Japanese War, and victory in the civil war that led to the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949.
Under the party’s direction, China moved from agricultural collectivization to Deng Xiaoping’s Reform and Opening-Up policy in the 1970s, establishing what is known as “socialism with Chinese characteristics,” a model credited with reducing poverty and elevating the country’s global standing.
