The blockade is.” Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla has requested the UN General Assembly to hold a special session on the US blockade, pointing to a lack of progress in US talks. In a press conference Tuesday, Parrilla condemned Trump’s intensification of the blockade as “an act of genocide … collective punishment, and a massive, flagrant, and systematic violation of human rights.” Trump has sharply escalated the US economic war on Cuba, cutting it off from fuel imports and threatening other countries with tariffs to pressure them into compliance. In May, the Department of Justice issued an indictment of Raul Castro, which many Cubans see as a pretext for military aggression against the island nation.
