A week after conceding the election, Colombian left-wing presidential candidate Iván Cepeda demands his far-right opponent Abelardo de la Espriella renounce his US citizenship and clarify his ties to US intelligence. De la Espriella was the Trump-backed opponent who won Colombia’s elections by a narrow margin, but many in the country allege fraud and foreign interference. Cepeda accused de la Espriella of ties to Colombian drug trafficker and DEA informant Jorge Luis Hernandez Villazon, along with asserting that his US citizenship was “incompatible” with his elected office and a violation of the country’s sovereignty. Cepeda threatened “peaceful civil disobedience” if de la Espriella did not meet his demands and urged his supporters to “peacefully disregard any order, any provision, or any mandate from someone who does not meet the condition of guardian and guarantor of our Political Constitution."
