The Venezuelan Government this Monday categorically denied claims circulating on social media that the U.S. Air Force had taken operational control of the Simon Bolivar International Airport.

This false information matrix emerged following last Wednesday’s double earthquake of magnitude 7.1 and 7.5, under the pretext of “guaranteeing the arrival of humanitarian aid to the country.”

Through the official account of the Miraflores Palace on the social network X, the national Executive affirmed that there is no possible way for the United States or any other country to control an institution within Venezuelan territory.

The Government emphasized that the nation maintains a positive relationship of cooperation with global governments. “We ratify the positive relationship of cooperation that we maintain with the governments of the world within the framework of our sovereignty, especially in this difficult moment“, the government stated.

In this sense, authorities urge the population to ignore false matrices circulating on digital platforms after the double earthquake and reiterate the importance of always verifying information through official channels.

Text reads: “#Fake There is no way that the U.S. or any other country controls an institution in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We reaffirm the positive relationship of cooperation that we maintain with the Governments of the world within the framework of our sovereignty, especially in this difficult moment.”

This false information is part of a broader wave of fabricated content disseminated on digital platforms following the seismic contingency. Among the detected false matrices are unfounded tsunami alerts in La Guaira and reports of an alleged general blackout, fraudulently attributed to the National Electricity Corporation (Corpoelec), on June 24. This concerted effort to misinform the public aims to sow confusion and instability during a critical period for the nation.

The deliberate propagation of such unverified content not only creates undue panic but also diverts attention and resources away from genuine relief and recovery efforts. The Venezuelan State has been transparent in its communication, providing continuous updates and instructions through its official media outlets and governmental agencies to ensure public safety and awareness.

Under this same disinformation scheme, the National Institute for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Idenna) opted to deny rumors related to the vulnerability of minors affected by the earthquakes. The state body clarified that no child is handed over to unknown individuals and that family reunification protocols are executed under strict legal supervision, guaranteeing comprehensive protection in the habilitated care centers.

Social media platforms have become the epicenter for the dissemination of these campaigns. Monitoring efforts have detected the use of Artificial Intelligence tools to generate unrealistic videos about Venezuela, as well as the utilization of old footage or material corresponding to natural disasters that occurred in other countries. This manipulation of media underscores the sophisticated nature of the disinformation tactics being employed, making it even more crucial for citizens to exercise caution and critical thinking.

Faced with this situation, marked by one of the most complex seismic challenges in the country’s recent history, the fundamental contribution of citizens to overcoming the emergency lies in the exclusive dissemination of verified data.

Venezuelan authorities insist that the spread of rumors only aggravates the contingency scenario, which is why they have exhorted the population to consult only official channels to preserve public tranquility and avoid misunderstandings.

The government continues to work tirelessly on recovery efforts, prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens. The call for responsibility in information sharing is a cornerstone of the national strategy to manage the aftermath of the earthquake effectively and to counteract any attempts to destabilize the nation through misinformation.
