July 4, 2026 officially marks America turning 250 years young.

While states and cities across the country have celebrations lined up, ICT is hosting a virtual event with a conversation focusing on what does America 250 mean when seen through the eyes of the first peoples of this land?

Moderated by ICT News Director of Digital, Jourdan Bennett-Begaye, Diné, the discussion will focus on the legacies of colonialism, resilience and the ongoing contributions of Native people and nations.

Joining the talk as panelists are three Indigenous scholars and leaders from various industries.

  • Charitie Ropati, Yup’ik and Samoan, serves as a Climate Advisor to the UN Secretary-General. Ropati is a graduate of Columbia University’s School of Engineering and has worked on water infrastructure for rural Alaska Native communities.
  • Se-ah-dom Edmo, Shoshone-Bannock, Nez Perce & Yakama, is the executive director of Seeding Justice, a nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon.
  • Philip J. Deloria, Yankton Dakota, is a Leverett Saltonstall Professor of History at Harvard University.
