Emergency units evacuated residents trapped in affected areas, while homes, businesses, and vehicles suffered severe damage. Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant due to the forecast of further rainfall.
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama ordered the release of US$26.5 million from the Contingency Fund to support urgent relief and mitigation efforts.
Half of the funds will be allocated to immediate assistance for affected communities, while the remainder will finance measures to prevent and mitigate future flooding in the capital and other vulnerable regions.

Mahama instructed the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to identify victims and provide immediate support. He also ordered the deployment of the Armed Forces and Police to reinforce ongoing rescue operations.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency reported that Accra recorded 333 millimeters of rain in June, compared to 172 in 2025 and 85 in 2024, figures that demonstrate an alarming increase in rainfall.
The president urged citizens to change their waste disposal habits and halt illegal construction in waterways, ordering the demolition of structures that exacerbate the risk of flooding.
The floods are reminiscent of the 2015 tragedy, when a similar disaster caused a gas station explosion that left 150 dead, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable measures to protect lives and ecosystems.
