The move has prompted allegations that the CPJ is trying, on behalf of Tel Aviv, to alter the definition of who would qualify as a journalist.
“CPJ is conducting a full review of its database of journalists killed during the Israel–Gaza war,” it said, claiming Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement “published obituaries identifying as combatant individuals previously listed by CPJ as journalists.”
