Organizing at the regional level all over the world has always been at the core of World BEYOND War’s program for change. In recent years we’ve significantly grown our on-the-ground presence, adding organizers for Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia. Episode 85 of the World BEYOND War podcast is a conversation with Annachiara Canetta, our organizer for Europe.

Annachiara is from Italy and now lives in the Netherlands, where she interacts with chapter leaders in Ireland, Berlin, Wanfried and Romania, develops new pathways and relationships with partners and affiliates, and maintains World BEYOND War’s Europe page. In this introductory conversation, I enjoyed the chance to ask Annachiara about her beginnings as a peace activist, and we talked about her involvement in other movements from food sovereignty, climate strike and Palestine.

Some of the World BEYOND War activities we talked about include STOP REARM EUROPE and coverage of US military bases stationed all over this continent. Annachiara and I also talked about changing positionalities in Europe from Scandinavia to Italy, the impact of the Russia/Ukraine war on antiwar movements, the multi-generational nature of antiwar coalitions, and the inspiration provided by the book “The Will to Change” by bell hooks.

Musical excerpt: “Carnival” by Kneecap.
