The United States launched a new series of strikes on Iran this Saturday, including surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense positions, drone storage facilities, and naval mine deployment capabilities, in response to a drone attack attributed to Tehran against a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to a Central Command statement.


Centcom stated that the strikes were in direct response to what it framed as continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping.

The military command argued that Tehran had the opportunity to respect the ceasefire agreement following Friday’s U.S. strikes in response to an earlier attack on the M/V Ever Lovely, but chose not to do so. Centcom added that commercial vessel transit through the strait continues and that U.S. forces remain alert, prepared to act, and ready to respond to what they might consider further threats.

On the other hand, Iran accused Washington of violating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries and justified its subsequent response against U.S. targets as an act of “legitimate defense.”

The U.S. attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations once again.

The failed U.S. President has shown he has no commitment to the principles of negotiation or a ceasefire.

This reckless violation of the ceasefire will, as always, lead to retreat and regret on their part.

The strikes mark the first attacks exchanged by both parties since the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17 to end hostilities and guarantee free navigation through the strait while negotiating a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
