The medical kits sent can cover the needs of 1,500 people for a month, authorities estimate.

In addition, the aircraft will carry a field hospital, with 48 military personnel to operate it, and 100 water purifiers that will be donated to the Venezuelan Government.

“The country remains at the disposal of the Venezuelan authorities and international organizations to expand humanitarian support according to identified needs,” the statement said.

These flights join the one that already left on Friday morning, with 36 firefighters, six rescue dogs, 12 tons of equipment, and telecommunications specialists to try to locate cell phone signals under the rubble.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his “great concern” on Thursday about the impact of the two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that shook the north of the Caribbean country on Wednesday.

That same day, the president spoke by phone with his Venezuelan counterpart, Delcy Rodríguez, to offer her help.

Along with Brazil, countries such as the US, Spain and Mexico also mobilized to send humanitarian missions, under the coordination of the UN.
