The leader of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, this Saturday considered the framework agreement signed yesterday in Washington between Israel and Lebanon as “a humiliation, a shame and a renunciation of sovereignty,” and asked Lebanon to rectify its “mistakes” because it is “destroying” the country.

This was indicated in an extensive statement by the top leader of the armed group in his first words after the signing of this pact, reached through US mediation, in which he assured that this agreement “lacks all validity.”
Therefore, he indicated that his group will continue to act “by all necessary means and through international and Arab pressure so that the Israeli enemy complies with the first point of the memorandum of understanding and withdraws from Lebanon,” in reference to the agreement signed by the United States and Iran this month.
The leader called on the Lebanese authorities: “It is time for you to rectify your mistakes, which are destroying Lebanon. Rectifying would be a virtue that would be recorded in your favor after so many faults. We are willing to cooperate and work together for the sovereignty of Lebanon.”

And he advocated that his fighters continue “on the ground until the occupation is expelled,” in reference to the areas currently invaded by Israel in the south of the Mediterranean country.
Under the pretext that Lebanon must comply with disarmament for Israel to withdraw, any existing weapon anywhere in Lebanese territory will serve to claim that Lebanon is failing to meet its commitments. But the weapons will not be handed over at all, and no one has the right to deprive the Lebanese of their right to defend themselves and their land against the occupier of our territory and the killer of our people, he maintained.
Also, the Shiite official asked: “Where is the responsibility and commitment of the Lebanese authorities to their people and to the protection of Lebanon’s sovereignty?”
Meanwhile, the president of Lebanon’s parliament and a key ally of Hezbollah, Nabih Berri, today called on his supporters to refrain from internal strife in the face of last night’s limited protests following the announcement of the framework agreement with Israel.
