The “Blue Sharks” wrote the most glorious chapter of their athletic history at the NRG Stadium in Houston, securing a ticket to the next phase in their debut appearance at the global tournament. This monumental milestone represents an extraordinary achievement for the island country of only 600,000 citizens.

The match at the NRG Stadium in Houston was highly competitive from the opening whistle. Saudi Arabia generated the first dangerous approach when winger Salem Al Dawsari received the ball on the left side and launched a low, left-footed strike. The Cape Verdean defense reacted quickly to block the ball before it reached the goal line.

The African squad responded during the 21st minute of the first half. Midfielder Willy Semedo controlled the ball on the left side and shot directly toward the near post. Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais anticipated the trajectory well, capturing the ball cleanly to neutralize the threat

During the second half, Cape Verde maintained offensive pressure to secure their historic qualification. Midfielders Jamiro Monteiro and Kevin Pina attempted long-range shots to break the deadlock, but their efforts missed the target. The most critical opportunity of the entire match occurred in the 68th minute of play.

Midfielder Nuno Da Costa delivered an excellent through ball that bypassed the Saudi defense, leaving striker Laros Duarte in a direct one-on-one duel against the goalkeeper. However, Mohammed Al Owais closed down the angle quickly, blocking the final shot and keeping the Asian side alive in the match.

The Saudi squad attempted to secure a victory during the final minutes of the game. Striker Mohammed Kanno executed a dangerous header that forced Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha to retreat rapidly and catch the ball. In the final actions of the match, forward Abdullah Al-Hamdan fired a direct shot, but Vozinha secured the ball cleanly to preserve the historic scoreless draw.
