Venezuela’s authorities confirmed the rescue of 243 people in the Coastal Region following the devastating double earthquake that struck the country on June 24.


The President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, announced on June 26 the official balance during a public address, expressing deep gratitude to the thousands of Venezuelan volunteers, state security forces, civil protection groups and members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB, in Spanish) for their tireless salvage efforts.

Rodriguez, reports 243 people rescued from the disaster area in the coastal entity after the earthquakes occurred last Wednesday in Venezuela. “Every person who is rescued is a miracle that gives us hope back“, he said.

The deputy detailed that the intensive search and rescue operations are concentrated in the coastal state of La Guaira, as well as the Chacao and Libertador municipalities of Caracas.

In La Guaira, state agencies successfully distributed 2,600 tons of food to guarantee immediate sustenance for those affected. This comprehensive social deployment managed to assist 69,500 families who suffered losses because of the double seismic event.

The national brigades receive vital support from 861 international rescuers who deployed immediately to the affected zones to locate survivors. The international humanitarian contingent consists of 272 specialists from Mexico, 115 from El Salvador, and 328 from the United States. Additionally, 90 experts from Switzerland, 63 from Colombia, 53 from Ecuador, 40 from Spain, 34 from Chile, 13 from Panama and 11 from the Dominican Republic joined the efforts, alongside a specialized rescue team from the United Nations (UN).

These foreign professionals possess advanced training to navigate collapsed structures, debris and fractured walls to reach survivors.

Official Damage Assessed

According to the latest official report, the tragedy has resulted in 920 deceased individuals and 3,360 injured people. Emergency services confirm that 172 citizens remain trapped under collapsed structures, while 3,007 victims are currently registered as homeless.

The material destruction is extensive across the affected regions. A total of 1**,423 structures sustained severe damage, including 383 residential buildings, 25 shopping centers and 13 hospital centers**, alongside 1,002 other diverse constructions that require immediate evaluation.

The parliamentary leader urged the Venezuelan population to maintain absolute calm and rely exclusively on official government communications. Jorge Rodriguez strongly denounced malicious sectors that have spread false news and unverified information since the initial hours of the emergency to generate chaos.

The national Government continues to coordinate the emergency response, prioritizing human life and the reconstruction of public infrastructure, maintaining active monitoring across the affected territory to guarantee security and complete medical assistance to the population.
