During the night of Thursday and the early hours of Friday, Russian forces countered a massive Ukrainian drone attack that sought to disrupt Russian energy networks and oil facilities.

“Air defense systems on duty intercepted and destroyed 660 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Russian Defense Ministry stated.
The drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Rostov, Voronezh, Tula, Ryazan, Astrakhan regions, the Moscow region, Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas.
“Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin began publishing urgent civilian warning messages to social media channels shortly before the midnight hour. Local tracking networks continuously identified multiple hostile aircraft approaching the airspace of the capital city through the early morning hours,” the Egypt Daily reported.

“Russian state media sources described the sweeping multi-region operation as one of the largest single drone strikes recorded since the outbreak of hostilities. The heavy deployment of remote-controlled weapon systems indicates a major tactical escalation by neighboring military strategists,” it added.
Just a few hours earlier on Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly announced a 40-day influence operation aimed at altering the regional course of events, a move that appeared to sideline international diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
On Thursday night, Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev City Military Administration, stated that Ukraine’s capital came under a Russian ballistic missile attack, urging residents to take cover. Meanwhile, Kiev Major Vitali Klitschko stated that the air defense systems were operating and urged residents to stay in shelters.
