
The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reported that the death toll from the two earthquakes that shook the South American country on Wednesday, June 24, has risen to 164, with 971 injured.
In a national address via a phone call to the Venezolana de Tenevisión (VTV) channel, Rodríguez also announced the establishment of an initial fund of $200 million for reconstruction efforts.
Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 hit Venezuela, with the most affected areas being the states of La Guaira, Distrito Capital, and Miranda.
The acting president added that 101 aftershocks had occurred between the two earthquakes.
