The constitutional President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, sent a message of solidarity to the nation from New York this night, calling for national unity and urgent action after two historic earthquakes struck the country.

From his place of detention, President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, the First Combatant Cilia Flores, expressed their profound solidarity and offered sincere prayers for the families of the victims, the injured, and all citizens suffering from the physical consequences of the natural disaster.

This message of encouragement was dispatched while President Maduro continues to face a controversial judicial process in the United States, following his illegal kidnapping during the military attack against Venezuela on January 3.

The Venezuelan leader declared that the immediate priority for the nation must be “maximum unity, maximum solidarity, and maximum action“, urging local communities to protect children, elderly citizens and vulnerable individuals.

“In this difficult hour, we call for national unity, serenity, and concrete love: to help, protect, share, lift and rebuild”, the Venezuelan President stated, expressing his absolute faith in the historical resilience of the nation.

The President prioritized the well-being of his compatriots, emphasizing that the country will overcome this catastrophic natural event through discipline, organization, and the historical strength of its people.

The state leader also praised the outstanding work being carried out on the ground by rescue brigades, including the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) and the national civil protection agency.

National Unity Urged

These security forces, alongside professional firefighters, medical personnel and thousands of community volunteers, are working tirelessly to clear debris and rescue survivors from collapsed structures in Caracas and six other affected states.

The emergency was triggered by two unprecedented consecutive earthquakes of 7.1 and 7.5 magnitude, which struck the northern region of Venezuela with only a one-minute interval between them.

According to seismic experts, this rare seismic doublet represents the most powerful tectonic activity registered in the country in more than a century, causing severe structural damage and multiple reported casualties in major cities.

In his letter, the President expressed absolute trust in the institutional capacity of the Acting President, Delcy Rodriguez, who declared a state of emergency and suspended all non-essential activities across the national territory.

As national authorities continue to assess the full extent of the physical damage, the call for solidarity issued by President Nicolas Maduro reinforces the civic-military alliance necessary to address this major humanitarian emergency and initiate the reconstruction process.
