Venezuela’s Government activated emergency security protocols and urged citizen calm this Wednesday, following a shallow 7.1 magnitude earthquake that shook Caracas and several northern states.
The Venezuelan Minister for Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, delivered the first official damage assessment through the state television channel (VTV).
The Government official requested maximum tranquility from the population and urged families to immediately execute established evacuation and prevention protocols.

“We are acting in accordance with the established norms and protocol mechanisms to activate assistance, initiate rescue operations, and support those who need it most”, the Venezuelan minister declared during his televised broadcast to the nation.

During his official public intervention, the Minister emphasized the critical importance of protecting and reassuring young children within every household, recommending that citizens temporarily remain in open areas, far from high-rise structures and heavy concrete edifices.
He also pointed out that as a preventive measure, the direct cut of gas in some buildings was authorized because some structures are damaged and relevant assessments must be carried out to determine the damage.
This strategic recommendation aims to prevent physical accidents caused by potential aftershocks of the seismic movement in Caracas and surrounding states. State security forces have been instructed to patrol residential sectors to facilitate safe evacuations and maintain public order.

Preliminary evaluations conducted by national authorities report localized material damage in some urban sectors, but confirm zero fatalities or severe injuries. Citizens in the capital and northern coastal regions quickly complied with security instructions, gathering in designated safety zones.
National civil protection organizations and municipal risk management bodies are currently executing comprehensive structural evaluations of public infrastructure. These specialized rescue teams remain deployed in urban areas to respond with absolute immediacy to any localized emergency reported by civil communities.
Additionally, coastal security agencies are coordinating preventive measures along the Caribbean shoreline following the regional tsunami warning. This activation of emergency maritime protocols ensures that coastal populations receive timely instructions to relocate to higher ground if necessary.

Seismic Activity Data
According to international geological reports, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) registered two distinct earthquakes of 7.1 magnitude on Wednesday afternoon. The first epicenter was located 28 kilometers northwest of the Montalban municipality in Carabobo state, situated 100 kilometers west of Caracas.
The second seismic event occurred 21 kilometers west of the Moron municipality, situated at a similar distance from the national capital. The USGS classified the tectonic movement as a shallow earthquake, registering a depth of only 13.2 kilometers.
This shallow depth explained why the physical shockwaves propagated with high intensity across northern Venezuela and neighboring countries in the Caribbean basin. State geologists are working in coordination with international agencies to monitor the ongoing tectonic adjustments.
The national civil defense apparatus remains fully mobilized across the country to assist citizens and evaluate strategic infrastructure like bridges, hospitals, and highways.
