In his concession speech on Wednesday, leftist presidential candidate Iván Cepeda condemned “open and undue” foreign interference by the US and Trump in Colombia’s elections in support of rival Abelardo de la Espriella. Cepeda further denounced what he called a massive vote-buying operation by the de la Espriella campaign, adding that these practices “damaged the transparency of the process and call into question the legitimacy of the new government.” Abelardo de la Espriella declared victory on June 21 after preliminary results gave him a narrow lead in Colombia’s presidential runoff. He has promised a sweeping right-wing agenda centered on security, austerity, and closer ties with the United States and Israel.
